Fungi are everywhere ? from brilliant-colored mushrooms, to pathogens, to microbes in the soil, fungi are key to many boilogical processes. Yet, because fungi are relatvely inconspicuous in the xeric habitats of Lake Wales Ridge, they are an often overlooked group in our region?s biodiversity. In this talk, Dr. Aaron David will discuss the Archbold Plant Ecology Program?s research on fungi, including recent macrofungi collection efforts, conservation of the endangered Florida lichen, and the biodiversity of soil fungi that underlies the scrub?s varied habitats. BIO: Dr. Aaron David is the Program Director of Plant Ecology at Archbold Biological Station. He completed his B.A. at Washington University in St. Louis, and his PH. D. at the University of Minnesota. He has been working in Florida ecosystem since 2016, including postdoctoral positions at the University of Miami and the USDA-ARS Invasive Plant Research Laboratory prior to starting his position at Archbold in 2021. 9th Annual 863 Art Fest in April 15, 2023, from 10 a.m. ? 4 p.m. in Central Park, 469 W Central Ave, Winter Haven, FL. 33881. FREE COMMUNITY EVENT family/ pet-friendly, hosting more than 100 local fine artists and crafters. The event will also feature food trucks, kettle corn, cold sweets, gourmet, home-baked goods, all natural body products/ candles, henna tattoo artist, unique wooden furniture, raw local honey, cottage food, pet supplies, live music, and much more! LOTS OF FREE PARKING AVAILABLE! 863 Art Fest!

This is a monthly event happening on the third Sunday of each month. With the idea of feeding the community. The event is funded by group members and donations. All community members are invited out for our food give away. We are requesting that the water be turned on for sanitation benefits for our cooks and patrons along with the electricity/bathrooms. The event starts from 12 p.m. through 5 p.m. The member will be there until 6 p.m. for clean-up of the area along with bagging the trash for pickup. We estimate anywhere between 50 to 150 participates coming out to eat with us. (Due to this being our first chance since Covid we are not sure on this months numbers).
